Asheville police launch Child Passenger Safety Week campaign

Parents and caregivers can receive free car seat inspections and installations at most Asheville fire stations through a year-round safety program.
The Asheville Police Department, in partnership with the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program, has launched its annual Child Passenger Safety Week campaign to remind parents and caregivers of the importance of properly installing child safety seats.
The campaign runs Sept. 21-27 and focuses on protecting children from injuries in motor vehicle crashes by ensuring they are secured in appropriate child passenger restraints.
Police encourage parents and caregivers to have their child's car seat inspected if they recently bought a new seat, switched to a different type of restraint, or are preparing for a new stage of growth.
Anyone uncertain whether a car seat is installed correctly is also encouraged to request an inspection.
Free car seat inspections and installations are available at all Asheville Fire Department stations except Station 12. Certified child passenger safety technicians provide the service, and no appointment is necessary.
Parents and caregivers can find additional inspection locations and child passenger safety resources near you in North Carolina at Buckle Up NC.
The campaign is part of a statewide effort to increase awareness of child passenger safety and encourage the proper use of car seats and booster seats.
