BURKE COUNTY — A large-scale operation by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in dozens of criminal charges and the seizure of several pounds of illegal drugs, according to authorities.

Officials say the operation led to approximately 50 charges being filed and more than four pounds of methamphetamine being taken off the streets. Investigators also reportedly seized a small amount of fentanyl during the investigation.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said the operation was part of ongoing efforts targeting narcotics trafficking and illegal drug activity across the county. Multiple individuals were arrested during the investigation, though officials have not yet released all names connected to the case.

Law enforcement says methamphetamine continues to be one of the biggest drug threats facing western North Carolina communities, contributing to addiction, overdoses, and other criminal activity.

Sheriff’s investigators worked alongside other agencies during the operation as authorities continue efforts to disrupt the distribution of narcotics in the region.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests or charges could still be possible
