EXTREME HEAT IMPACTING RUTHERFORD COUNTY

Rutherford County is expected to experience a stretch of intense summer heat this week, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and heat index values making conditions feel even hotter.

According to the National Weather Service, highs in the Rutherfordton area are forecast to reach the low to upper 90s over the next several days, with heat index readings near or above 100 degrees during peak afternoon hours. Forecasters say the combination of heat and humidity will continue to build through the week, creating potentially dangerous outdoor conditions.

Officials caution that prolonged exposure to high heat index values can increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat-related illness, especially for children, older adults, and those working outside.
