The Lake Lure Town Council voted Tuesday to begin a phased “soft opening” of the lake starting April 20, marking a major milestone in the town’s recovery while officials emphasized ongoing safety concerns and infrastructure work.

On April 12, 2026, officers with the Spindale Police Department responded to a welfare check. Upon arrival, they made contact with a resident who shared he did not have food and was in need of assistance.

A recent Facebook post claimed that applications were being accepted in the Spindale area for employment at Sheetz, sparking interest and questions from the community.
