“This is about preserving safety standards while our workforce operates under extraordinary conditions,” Bedford said.

North Carolina State Board of Elections Executive Director Sam Hayes has announced a slate of leadership changes designed to reinforce key areas of election oversight and administration.

The board voted unanimously to extend Sutton’s contract by one year, along with contracts for top administrators. No public discussion occurred regarding evaluations or contract terms before the vote.

The program, called Carolina Healthworks, is described as a “multiple employer welfare arrangement” offered by Blue Cross North Carolina and the North Carolina Chamber.

“This sentence was serious and reflects the grave nature of the offense,” Attorney General Jackson said. “Investigating and prosecuting this case was a team effort by law enforcement. My office will continue working with our partners to keep people safe across North Carolina.”
