North Carolina Republicans have finalized a new congressional map that is expected to give the GOP another stronghold in next year’s midterm elections — part of a coordinated national effort encouraged by former President Donald Trump to expand Republican power in the U.S. House.

The Chimney Rock Village Council voted on Oct. 21 to extend its local state of emergency declaration through March 28, 2026, allowing continued access to recovery funds and coordination with state and federal agencies as storm-related repairs move forward.

Officials emphasize that this is a scam. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office does not request or accept any type of payment over the phone or through online payment apps.

“The Town of Lake Lure is deeply grateful for the extraordinary work accomplished and this extension, which allows the lake to be safe, stable, and navigable,” the town said in a statement.
