According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 24 people per minute are victims of domestic violence in the United States, totaling more than 12 million people annually. Domestic abuse encompasses a wide range of behaviors, including rape, physical violence, stalking, and other forms of sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse.

While other federal agencies are scaling back services during the shutdown, the judiciary’s continued operation underscores the constitutional principle that the courts remain open for the administration of justice — even in times of political gridlock.

Governor Stein said the task force will focus on “real solutions to make North Carolina safer,” but the membership is mostly urban-based, with representatives from Raleigh, Durham, Mecklenburg, and New Hanover counties.

"Measles, though rare in North Carolina, is a serious public health threat," Jason Masters, Foothills Health Director, said in a statement. "Measles is highly contagious and can be dangerous, especially for young children and those with weakened immune systems. Vaccination is the best protection."

The thefts occurred between September 22 and 24, when DOT workers reported that items including chainsaws, leaf blowers, and a Makita hammer drill were missing from the property. Camera footage provided by the DOT helped confirm Little’s identity.
