MC DOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (October 16, 2025) – Authorities have charged a Nebo man in connection with the theft of equipment from the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Detective Michael Vaughn with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 38-year-old Bynum Lee Little, Jr., with multiple felony counts, including breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle and larceny. Little was given a secured bond of $50,000. Additional charges are pending.
The thefts occurred between September 22 and 24, when DOT workers reported that items including chainsaws, leaf blowers, and a Makita hammer drill were missing from the property. Camera footage provided by the DOT helped confirm Little’s identity.
Brittany Dawn Owensby, 41, of Marion, was also charged in connection with the case as a felony accessory after the fact. Owensby was denied bond due to being out on pretrial release at the time.
