Since last October, the Town of Lake Lure has worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to repair extensive damage. USACE has led the restoration, with critical support from AshBritt Environmental and local contractors working around the clock for nearly a year.

The meeting began with public hearings on federal and state transportation grants. Commissioners unanimously approved applications totaling $1.17 million, with a local match of about $157,000. The funding will cover administrative costs, operations, and six new vehicles.

During the session, the board approved a private hangar lease, advanced a $1.1 million fencing project to fully enclose the airport, and discussed planning for electric aircraft as part of a broader push to prepare Rutherford County for future aviation trends.

“These repairs will help restore safe travel and support local transportation needs,” Moore said, adding that he will continue pushing for resources until “every town hit by Helene is back on its feet.”

One of the evening’s first votes was a zoning amendment allowing Hunt Pest Control, a family-owned company, to move into its first brick-and-mortar location on Railroad Avenue. Mayor Dancy called it a “small business success story” and an example of how zoning changes can encourage growth.
