The search for a missing Randolph County child ended tragically on Thursday morning when the body of 7-year-old Liam A. King was found in a nearby pond.
Rescue crews had been searching since Sunday by foot and air for the special needs child. Sheriff Greg Seabolt said during a press conference that the discovery was not the outcome anyone had hoped for. The child was found about a tenth of a mile from where he was staying.
According to the sheriff’s office, Liam had been under the care of his mother’s boyfriend when he was reported missing. The child’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
