Burke County Sheriff’s Office Reports 2,920 Calls for Service in July

MORGANTON, N.C. — The Burke County Sheriff’s Office handled nearly 3,000 calls for service during July, while deputies made 125 arrests and seized a significant amount of narcotics, according to the department’s monthly activity report.

The office reported 2,920 calls for service during July and took 199 reports. Deputies made 125 arrests during the month.

Narcotics Seizures

One of the most significant figures in the July report was the amount of methamphetamine seized by the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies seized:

• 10,345.2 grams of methamphetamine

• 3.6 grams of fentanyl

• 3.8 grams of heroin

• 28 grams of cocaine

• 5.4 grams of marijuana

• 27 dosage units of clonazepam

The Sheriff's Office estimated the average street value of the narcotics seized at $518,328.40.

Concealed Carry and Fingerprint Services

The Sheriff's Office also processed 71 fingerprint records during July for purposes including employment, concealed carry permits and licenses.

The department issued 142 concealed carry permits, including 30 new applications and 112 renewals.

Inmates and Transportation

The Burke County jail reported a monthly average inmate population of 194, with 272 total inmates booked during July.

The department's State Transport Team made 43 trips, transporting inmates to other jails, prisons and mental health facilities. Those trips accounted for 7,364 miles during the month.

Civil Papers Served

Deputies and staff also served 448 civil papers in July.

That total included:

• 113 civil summons

• 70 magistrate summons

• 265 other civil papers

  
  

Six-Month Comparison

The July report also provides a look at activity during the first six months of 2026.

Calls for service increased steadily from 2,370 in January to 2,851 in June. Reports taken peaked at 273 in April, while arrests reached a six-month high of 142 in April.

The department also recorded its highest monthly number of state transport team miles in June, with 8,506 miles.

The six-month report shows the Burke County Sheriff's Office continuing to handle a wide range of law-enforcement, detention, transportation and civil-service responsibilities throughout the county.
