If you have driven past Rutherfordton Town Hall and the Rutherford County Courthouse

you may have noticed the Blue Pinwheel Gardens at both locations. The month of April

is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Towns and counties alike in North Carolina have the

Blue Pinwheel Gardens appropriately named “Pinwheels of Possibility”. According to the

Burke County Sheriff’s Office the blue pinwheels highlight how partnerships between families and communities can help prevent child abuse before it occurs.

The blue pinwheel symbolizes hope, joy and a bright future for every child. Each April,

pinwheel “gardens” are planted to raise awareness and reinforce the shared

commitment to protecting children. All communities in North Carolina remain

unwavering in their commitment to investigating all reports of child abuse and will

continue working alongside community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of

the children of all 100 counties in North Carolina.
