On this solemn anniversary, the Burke County Sheriff's Office honors the memory of four courageous men who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty two years ago:

Joshua Eyer, Charlotte - Mecklenburg Police Department

Samuel Poloche - North Carolina Department of Adult Correction

William Elliott - North Carolina Department of Adult Correction

Thomas Weeks - United States Marshals Service

Each of these men wore a different uniform, but they stood united in purpose—protecting their communities with bravery, honor and an unwavering sense of duty. Their sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every day and the selflessness required to serve others.

Two years later, their loss is still deeply felt. We remember them not only for their heroism, but for the lives they lived—dedicated public servants, respected colleagues and beloved family members. Their legacy lives on through those who continue the mission and through the communities they helped protect.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office stands with all agencies and families impacted by this tragic loss. We will never forget the courage displayed on that day and we remain committed to honoring their memory through our service.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
