A Rutherfordton man is facing a felony charge of attempted first-degree murder following his arrest earlier this month, according to court records obtained by WCAB News.

Robert Scott Blankenship, of Green Street in Rutherfordton, was charged April 18 in connection with an incident involving the alleged victim, Jaylen Woods. The charge stems from an accusation that Blankenship “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did with malice aforethought attempt to kill and murder” Woods, according to the arrest warrant.

Court records show Blankenship was arrested by Lt. Freddie Euten of the Rutherfordton Police Department. The department has not issued a public statement about the incident.

Blankenship made an initial court appearance on April 20, where a judge ordered conditions of release, including a $500,000 secured bond. The court also imposed restrictions prohibiting contact with the alleged victim and barring the defendant from being on or about the victim’s property.

The case, 26CR285209-800, remains pending. Blankenship also has other charges pending related to an alleged domestic violence case

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
