Explorer Cadets Get Hands-On Forensics Training with Rutherford County Sheriff's Office

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Members of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Explorer Program gained valuable hands-on experience in crime scene investigation during their monthly meeting on June 30.

Explorer cadets spent the evening learning forensic investigation techniques from Sgt. Seth Watkins, who shared his extensive training and expertise in the field of crime scene processing.

During the session, cadets were introduced to the proper methods of collecting fingerprints and had the opportunity to practice several fingerprinting techniques themselves. Sgt. Watkins also demonstrated how investigators use specialized lighting and filters to locate and preserve evidence that may not be visible to the naked eye.

The interactive training provided cadets with a firsthand look at the science behind criminal investigations and the important role forensic evidence plays in solving crimes.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office thanked Sgt. Watkins for volunteering his time and knowledge to help educate the next generation of law enforcement professionals through the Explorer Program.

The Sheriff's Office Explorer Program provides young people interested in law enforcement careers with opportunities to learn from experienced deputies, develop leadership skills, and participate in hands-on training throughout the year.
