Members of the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task Force and Rutherford County Aggressive Criminal Enforcement team executed a search warrant Monday at a Spindale residence following multiple complaints of suspected narcotics activity.
According to investigators, detectives went to 741 Spindale St. on Feb. 24, 2026. While knocking on the door, officers reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from inside the home.
Detectives made contact with the occupants and said the smell of burnt marijuana was “overwhelming” as the door opened. Officers began speaking with Samuel Dayshaun Boyce, who initially consented to a search of the residence. Upon entering, investigators said they observed additional indicators consistent with drug activity.
Authorities said Boyce later revoked consent to search the home. Detectives then applied for and were granted a search warrant before conducting a more extensive search of the residence.
During the search, investigators said they discovered evidence suggesting that Boyce and his girlfriend, Daiysha Lenae Carson, may have attempted to destroy narcotics by dumping them into a toilet. A preliminary field test of water collected from the toilet indicated it may have contained fentanyl or cocaine, according to law enforcement. The contents were seized and will be submitted to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for laboratory analysis and potential additional charges.
Underneath a bathroom sink, detectives reported finding numerous wet baggies that appeared to have previously contained narcotics.
Authorities said four individual baggies of fentanyl were recovered, each weighing approximately 0.1 gram — commonly referred to as a “point” in street-level sales. Investigators also seized a Diamondback 9mm pistol, $761 in U.S. currency, drug paraphernalia, a small amount of marijuana and a bottle of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) powder. Law enforcement officials described MSM as a common cutting agent used to dilute narcotics and increase their weight for distribution.
As a result of the investigation, Boyce was charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
Carson was charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
No bond information was immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing.
