Joint Operation Leads to Drug Seizure, Arrest in Rutherford and Cleveland Counties

Rutherford County, NC — On April 2, 2026, a coordinated operation conducted by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team, the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the seizure of more than1.5 pounds of methamphetamine and 133 grams of marijuana.

Joseph Harvey Smith, of Spindale, has been charged in connection with the investigation and is currently being held in the Cleveland County Detention Facility. Smith will face additional charges in Rutherford County.

This multi-agency effort underscores the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement partners to disrupt illegal drug activity and enhance public safety across county lines.
