As of July 29, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, AshBritt, and several local contractors have removed 26,890 dump truck loads of material from Lake Lure. Officials reported a significant milestone last week with the completion of debris and silt removal from the Rumbling Bald Beach and Marina area.
Crews have now shifted their focus to cove areas, beginning with Firefly Cove. Due to the large amount of silt present, work in these areas is expected to take time. Multiple crews are operating around the lake with plans to address coves throughout the area.
To date, 766,760 tons of silt and sediment have been removed from Lake Lure, including 60,778 tons in the last week. Additionally, 96,376 cubic yards of debris have been cleared from the waterway, with 886 cubic yards removed last week alone.
In other local updates, Bubba O’Leary’s and the Riverwatch Bar and Grill have reopened following damage from Hurricane Helene. Chimney Rock Park continues to require reservations for entry.
