A Marion man has been charged following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.

Detective Matt Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 55-year-old Roger Keith Hoover of Marion with felony possession of methamphetamine. Hoover was denied bond because he was already out on pretrial release at the time of the incident.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on September 23, Detective Smith was assisting the North Carolina State Highway Patrol during a license checkpoint on Nix Creek Road when Hoover was stopped. During the stop, officers determined that Hoover had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

With the help of MCSO K9 Hiko, detectives conducted a search of Hoover and his vehicle, locating a suspected quantity of methamphetamine. The Sheriff’s Office reported that Hoover was taken into custody and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
