Gibson Charged After Shooting into Occupied Dwelling


A Marion man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he fired shots into an occupied residence and was later found in possession of drugs.


Detective Billie Brown with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has charged 45-year-old Jayson Michael Gibson of Marion with:


• Felony Possession of a Firearm by Felon

• Felony Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Dwelling

• Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Marijuana

• Felony Possession of Methamphetamine

• Felony Possession of Marijuana


According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Jared Helms responded to a residence in Marion on October 9 for a weapons complaint. The victim reported hearing gunfire near the home the previous evening and later discovered bullet holes inside the house.


An investigation identified Gibson as the person responsible for firing the weapon, investigators said. When taken into custody, Gibson was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.


Gibson was issued a $125,000 secured bond.
