MARION — Detectives with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office have charged 37-year-old Joshua Adam Chilcote of Marion with felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and felony Attempted First-Degree Burglary. He was issued a secured bond of $150,000.
On the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 9, Deputy Kenneth Burleson and Lt. David Jones responded to a report of a break-in at a Marion residence. According to the homeowner, Chilcote broke into a vehicle parked in their driveway and removed a garage door opener in an attempt to enter the home while the occupants were inside. The homeowner was able to close the garage door before Chilcote could gain access, and the suspect fled on foot.
Detectives quickly identified Chilcote through camera footage provided by the homeowners, leading to a multi-agency search of the area. He was later found sitting behind a Marion business and taken into custody without incident.
Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan thanked the Marion Police Department and the N.C. State Highway Patrol for their assistance in the investigation. “We are grateful for the partnerships we have in our county,” Buchanan said. “Working together is essential to achieving the results we all want to see.”
