Marion man charged over unreturned lawn mower, sheriff’s office says

A Marion man was arrested Oct. 15 on a felony conversion charge after allegedly failing to return a borrowed lawn mower, according to a statement from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 26.
Jason Dewayne Nanney, 48, was issued a $10,000 secured bond, the sheriff’s office said.
Lt. Gioia Hollands received a report June 26 from a man who said he had allowed Nanney to borrow his lawn mower several months earlier but had not gotten it back. The owner valued the mower at $8,000.
The owner told investigators he had repeatedly tried to retrieve the mower and that Nanney told him it was no longer in his possession, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detective Derrick McGinnis investigated the report and charged Nanney with felony conversion.
No public case file related to the charge was found during a WCAB News review of NC Judicial Branch eCourts records on Oct. 28.
