MARION — A Marion woman is facing a series of felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies say she assaulted a woman, a child, and later a McDowell County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant during her arrest.

Lieutenant David Jones charged 26-year-old Laken Faith Hensley of Marion with two counts of felony Assault with Physical Injury to a Law Enforcement Officer, misdemeanor Ethnic Intimidation, and misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer. Her bond was set at $153,000 secured.

Deputies and detectives responded to a residence on Wednesday, Nov. 19, after receiving a report of an assault. The victim told deputies that Hensley had come home intoxicated and then physically assaulted her and a child inside the home. Deputies noted visible injuries consistent with the reported assault.

As Lt. Jones attempted to take Hensley into custody, she became combative and physically assaulted him, causing injury.

Detective Aaron Vallini continued the investigation, which resulted in additional charges against Hensley, including:

• Felony Assault by Strangulation

• Felony Second Degree Kidnapping

• Misdemeanor Assault on a Child Under 12

• Misdemeanor Child Abuse

• Misdemeanor Simple Assault

Hensley remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
