Saturday, reports say a 35-year-old mother was arrested after she left her children
inside a car outside Walmart in Washington, NC. The warrant issued for her arrest
stated that Erika Dixon Johson was ordered to not enter that Walmart store.
Reports say Johnson failed to pay for clothes she had hidden inside a trash can at the
Walmart on Pamlico Plaza. Reports say while she was being questioned, she lied to
police about the location of her vehicle, but a 3-year-old child asked about the children
that were in the vehicle. When the Walmart store’s security footage was reviewed,
officers learned 2 children, a 3-month-old and a 2-year-old child were in the car.
When law enforcement located the vehicle, they found the two children not moving as
the children had become overheated. The temperature on Saturday was around 75
degrees. Although the children were reported to have been sweating, they were in
stable condition.
Court records showed Johnson was arrested and charged with:
2 counts of misdemeanor child abuse
Second-degree trespassing
Shoplifting/concealment of goods
2 counts of resisting a public officer
Possession of a Schedule III controlled substance
Records also showed she had also parked in a handicap spot and was cited with
parking in a handicap spot.
Court documents showed that Johnson’s bond was set at $35,000, and that if she were
to be released, she would not be allowed “to go on any premises of Walmart in the
world.”
