Moore Marks 9/11 Anniversary, Highlights Burke County Recovery

U.S. Rep. Tim Moore, R-N.C., marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks this week while highlighting ongoing work in Burke County in a recent congressional newsletter update.

Moore said nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the attacks and honored the first responders who ran toward danger, as well as the servicemembers who followed in the years after.

“May we never forget those we lost and the heroes who stepped forward when our nation needed them most,” Moore said.

The congressman also met with Burke County business and community leaders in Morganton for a Burke County Chamber of Commerce Congressional Lunch. Discussions included Hurricane Helene recovery, federal legislation and local economic priorities.

Moore highlighted federal funding he said he helped secure for renovations to the Burke County Health and Human Services Building and expansion of UNC Health Blue Ridge's catheterization lab.

In another Morganton event, Moore attended the grand opening of Western Piedmont Community College's new Emergency Services Training Center.

The facility will train firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and other first responders. Moore said a planned swift-water component will further expand the center's capabilities.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, Moore said the courage of first responders remains a reminder of the importance of preparing those who protect their communities.

“Our first responders put their safety on the line every day,” Moore said, “and they deserve the resources they need to be prepared.”

Moore, a Republican, faces Democrat LaKesha Womack in the general election to represent the 14th Congressional district.
