More Than 500 Emergency Calls in 48 Hours; Law Enforcement Handles 384 Incidents

Rutherford County’s emergency lines were active around the clock over the weekend, with dispatchers logging 513 total 911 and administrative calls in 48 hours, according to a Rutherford County Emergency Communications radio report obtained by WCAB News.
Of those calls, 59 were for EMS and rescue services. Law enforcement agencies handled 384 calls combined across the county.
The breakdown of law enforcement activity includes:
177 calls for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office
69 calls for the Forest City Police Department
59 calls for the Rutherfordton Police Department
77 calls for the Spindale Police Department
2 calls for the Lake Lure Police Department
Fire departments across Rutherford County also responded to numerous incidents.
Crews fought a brush fire in Cherry Mountain and two separate brush fires in Cliffside. In Ellenboro, firefighters responded to two structure fires. The first drew assistance from Bostic, Cherry Mountain, and Forest City departments. The second required support from Cliffside and Sandy Mush.
Additional calls included a brush fire in Rutherfordton, a brush fire in the Shingle Hollow community, and a commercial fire alarm in the SDO area.
In Spindale, firefighters responded to a structure fire with assistance from Rutherfordton, Hudlow, and Forest City. Another structure fire in the Sandy Mush district prompted a multi-department response from Spindale, Sandy Mush, and Rutherfordton.
Emergency crews also worked multiple motor vehicle collisions, including crashes in Forest City, Spindale, and Union Mills.
No injuries or causes were released in connection with the incidents.
The weekend totals underscore the steady demand placed on dispatchers, deputies, police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel across Rutherford County.
