New Details Released in Burke County Double Murder Case

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Newly released court documents are providing additional details in the investigation into the deaths of a Burke County couple whose bodies were discovered buried near a walking trail in Glen Alpine.

Investigators have charged Jamar Propst and Tasha Lewis with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Raheim Murray and Carla Murray.

According to search warrants, investigators believe Raheim and Carla Murray were shot while sleeping inside their home before their bodies were transported and buried near a nature trail at a park in Glen Alpine.

Court records indicate investigators believe the killings were financially motivated after one of the victims reportedly inherited approximately $75,000.

Search warrant affidavits also allege that after the victims' deaths, Propst used facial recognition to unlock the victims' cell phones. Investigators claim Lewis then transferred approximately $19,000 from Carla Murray's Cash App account into her own account.

Authorities further allege that following the killings, Propst and Lewis moved into the victims' home along with several children.

Both suspects remain charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible as investigators continue to review evidence.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
