New Measles Cases

South Carolina may finally be catching a break on the number of reported new measles
cases.
State Health officials say that the number of confirmed measles cases is now at 962.
Data shows that the total new cases has fallen from 201 the week of January 11 to 71
cases for the week of February 1.
North Carolina, on the other hand, now is reporting 22 cases of the measles since
December. In the latest update February 17, according to the NCDPH.
Since December, the following counties have experienced measles:
Buncombe County: Seven cases
Polk County: Five cases
Mecklenburg County: Three cases
Cabarrus County: Two cases
Rutherford County: One case
Lincoln County: One case
Nash County: One case
Johnston County: One case
Union County: One case
Symptoms usually appear seven to 14 days after exposure and can include high fever,
cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots inside the mouth, and a rash.
Anyone who shows symptoms is advised to contact their local health department, limit
exposure to others and call ahead before visiting a medical office, clinic or hospital.
