Over 1,000 Emergency Calls reported in Rutherford County in past 72 hours

Rutherford County Emergency Communications logged a high volume of calls over the past three days, according to reports obtained by WCAB News.


The data released by Director Scott Schiefelbein and 911 Operations Coordinator Roman Scruggs show the center processed 1,002 combined 911 and administrative calls, reflecting steady demand across emergency medical, law enforcement, and fire services.


Emergency Medical Services responded to 111 EMS and rescue-related calls for medical incidents across the county.


Law enforcement agencies handled a combined 703 calls, including:


  • 325 for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office

  • 153 for Forest City Police

  • 121 for Spindale Police

  • 90 for Rutherfordton Police

  • 14 for Lake Lure Police


Fire departments across the county were dispatched to a range of service calls, including alarms, vehicle collisions, and a brush fire. Reported incidents included:


  • Bills Creek Fire Department: Motor vehicle crash

  • Bostic Fire Department: Gas leak

  • Cherry Mountain Fire Department: Motor vehicle crash

  • Cliffside Fire Department: Motor vehicle crash

  • Ellenboro Fire Department: Residential fire alarm

  • Sandy Mush Fire Department: Residential fire alarm

  • SDO Fire Department: Brush fire

  • Spindale Fire Department: Commercial fire alarm

  • Union Mills Fire Department: Motor vehicle crash


Emergency Communications officials said the call volume and variety of incidents underscore the continued coordination among county EMS, fire departments, and law enforcement agencies.
