Possible Human Remains Discovered on Poors Ford Road

Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2700 block of Poors Ford Road in Rutherfordton on October 14, 2025, after receiving a report of a possible human bone found in the area.

Investigators who arrived at the scene said preliminary observations indicate the bone appears to be human and is believed to be a femur. Authorities noted that the discovery may be connected to an ongoing missing person case from June 2025.

On Wednesday, October 15, personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, along with additional resources, conducted an expanded search of the area. The femur has been sent to the North Carolina State Medical Examiner’s Office for evaluation and identification.

Investigators have contacted the family of the missing person and will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
