Representative Jake Johnson has announced he will seek re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives, where he currently serves the people of District 113, covering parts of Rutherford, Henderson, Polk, and McDowell counties.

Johnson, a Republican and chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, also serves as Deputy Majority Whip. He said his campaign will focus on continuing the work of strengthening public safety, protecting conservative values, and growing the economy across western North Carolina.

“In the last state budget alone, we secured over $120 million for our district and nearly $2 billion for Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene,” Johnson said in a campaign statement. “Those investments strengthen local infrastructure, public safety, and economic growth.”

Johnson, who was first elected in 2019, said serving the region “is the honor of my life.”

“I’m running for re-election to continue fighting for our conservative values — keeping North Carolina safe, protecting our freedoms, and helping small businesses and families thrive,” he said.

Johnson’s priorities include being tough on crime and illegal immigration, defending pro-life and Second Amendment rights, and continuing to reduce taxes and regulations for working families.

“Western North Carolina deserves a strong, consistent voice in Raleigh,” Johnson said. “I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished, but the work is not complete.”

Johnson won re-election in 2024 with 67 percent of the vote. This year, he will face a primary challenger — lobbyist and former legislator Mike Hager, who once represented Rutherford County and served as House Majority Leader.

Official candidate filing is in December.
