The Rutherford County Emergency Communications Department reported a heavy weekend workload, processing more than 500 calls over the weekend, according to records obtained by WCAB News.
Officials say a total of 539 calls and administrative requests were handled over the 48-hour period, spanning emergency medical response, law enforcement activity, and fire-related incidents across multiple municipalities.
Of those calls, 86 were related to emergency medical services and rescue coordination. Law enforcement agencies accounted for a significant portion of the activity, including 195 calls for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, 100 for the Spindale Police Department, 84 for the Forest City Police Department, 58 for the Rutherfordton Police Department, and two for the Lake Lure Police Department.
Fire departments across the county also responded to several incidents. Reports include motor vehicle collisions in areas such as Bills Creek, Cherry Mountain, Cliffside, Forest City, and Rutherfordton. Additional calls involved brush fires in Cliffside and Spindale, as well as a structure fire response involving Forest City and mutual aid support from nearby departments.
Other incidents included a residential fire alarm activation in Forest City and a vehicle fire response.
Emergency officials say the volume of calls reflects ongoing demands on first responders across Rutherford County, particularly during peak weekend periods when traffic incidents and fire-related emergencies tend to increase.
