Rutherford County Emergency Communications Tackles 584 Calls in 48 Hours

EMS, law enforcement, and fire crews respond to crashes, structure fires, gas leaks, and residential alarms


Rutherford County’s 911 and emergency communications center has been nonstop over the past two days, handling 584 calls ranging from medical emergencies to fires and motor vehicle crashes.


Medical calls: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to 92 calls, providing urgent care across the county.


Law enforcement: The Sheriff’s Office handled 208 calls, while police in Forest City, Lake Lure, Rutherfordton, and Spindale collectively fielded 321 calls, reflecting a surge in law enforcement activity.


Fire response: Local fire departments were on high alert:


  • Cliffside Fire Department attended a motor vehicle crash.

  • Forest City Fire Department battled a structure fire, assisted by Rutherford, Spindale, and Hudlow units.

  • Forest City also responded to a gas leak, requiring coordination with neighboring departments.

  • Rutherfordton Fire Department dealt with two separate motor vehicle crashes.

  • SDO Fire Department handled a residential fire alarm call.


Officials say these numbers highlight the demands on county responders and reinforce the need for residents to report emergencies promptly and stay prepared.
