Rutherford County holds hearing on 2027 property reappraisal rules

Rutherford County commissioners held a public hearing on Sept. 24 on the rules that will guide the county’s 2027 property reappraisal. No members of the public spoke, according to the meeting minutes.

Revenue Director Richard Lawson told commissioners that the proposed schedule of values, standards and rules had been presented on Aug. 25. Asked about changes from previous reappraisals, Lawson said property sales drive changes in value.

Lawson said notices of new values should be mailed to taxpayers in early February 2027. Property owners who disagree with their values may appeal.

The hearing lasted less than ten minutes, from 6:00 to 6:08 p.m. The minutes record votes to approve the meeting agenda and adjourn, but do not record a vote to adopt the reappraisal rules. No video of the meeting has been provided by the county.

North Carolina law requires commissioners to hold a hearing at least seven days before adopting the final schedule of values, standards and rules.
