Rutherford County Schools approved a nearly $10 million budget increase for the 2025–26 school year, bringing its total operating budget to $110.8 million, according to documents obtained by WCAB News.

The budget amendment approved Oct. 7 reflects new state, federal, and capital funding. The biggest jump came from federal grants, which rose by $6.2 million to support classroom instruction and federally assisted programs. The capital outlay fund increased by $3.5 million, signaling planned investments in facilities and infrastructure.

State funding rose, while local funds held steady at $18.7 million.

Unaudited spending reports indicate that the district has spent approximately $21.6 million — or 21% of its budget — as of September 30. Most of the early spending came from state and local funds, while a significant portion of the new federal money remains to be distributed.

The next budget review is expected at the November Board of Education meeting.
