Over the past 24 hours, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to more calls than the combined totals of the towns of Lake Lure, Rutherfordton, Forest City, and Spindale, according to an emergency communications report obtained by WCAB News.
Rutherford County Emergency Communications processed a total of 323 calls, including both 911 and administrative requests. Of those, the sheriff’s office responded to 129 calls, far outpacing municipal law enforcement: Forest City - 50, Spindale - 29, Rutherfordton - 20, and Lake Lure - 2. Emergency medical services received 39 calls during the same period.
Fire departments across the county also handled multiple incidents, including structure fires, vehicle accidents, and fire alarms. Cherry Mountain responded to a fire and assisted with a motor vehicle accident in Bostic. Hudlow was the primary department for a structure fire and vehicle accident, assisted by Cherry Mountain, Bostic, and Spindale. Rutherfordton responded to a structure fire and fire alarm with support from Spindale, Forest City, and Hudlow, while Spindale handled a fire alarm.
The report highlights the high volume of calls the county sheriff’s office manages compared with smaller municipal departments, underscoring the critical role of county-level law enforcement and emergency response in Rutherford County.
