Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Releases May 2026 Activity Report

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has released its monthly activity report for May 2026, highlighting the workload and law enforcement efforts carried out across the county during the month.
According to the report, deputies responded to 3,807 calls for service, demonstrating the continued demand for law enforcement assistance throughout Rutherford County. In addition, officers completed 264 incident reports and made 143 arrests during the month.
The Sheriff's Office also remained active in serving legal documents, with deputies serving a total of 537 papers, including 143 criminal and 394 civil papers.
At the Rutherford County Detention Center, the average inmate population for May was 183 inmates, consisting of 150 males and 33 females.
Concealed Carry Permits
The Sheriff's Office processed a significant number of concealed carry permits in May, issuing a total of 217 permits. That figure included 48 new permits and 169 renewals.
Narcotics Enforcement Efforts
Drug enforcement continued to be a major focus for investigators. During May, authorities reported the seizure of:
894.4 grams of marijuana
673.6 grams of methamphetamine
2,378.2 grams of fentanyl/heroin
23 pills
11 firearms
The seizure of more than two kilograms of fentanyl and heroin combined represents one of the most significant categories of narcotics confiscated during the month and underscores the ongoing battle against dangerous drugs in local communities.
Activity Trends
A six-month comparison included in the report shows that May recorded the highest number of calls for service during the reporting period, surpassing April's total of 3,774 calls. Concealed carry permit issuances also increased to 217 in May, the highest monthly total shown in the report.
Sheriff Aaron Ellenburg noted that monthly statistics provide residents with a snapshot of the agency's operations and the services deputies provide throughout the county each day.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office reminds the public that monthly totals may be adjusted as additional information becomes available and cases are finalized.
