SCAM ALERT – Please Share

The Rutherford County community needs to be aware of a fraudulent “Notice of Default” letter currently circulating (see attached image). This document is NOT legitimate and is being used to scare individuals into making payments for supposed traffic violations. Although the image attached says "Wake County" multiple Rutherford County residents have reported that they have received this.

Key things to know:

• The notice falsely claims “immediate action is required” and threatens license suspension and court action.• It includes a QR code directing you to make a payment — DO NOT scan or pay.• Official court notices will never demand immediate payment through a QR code or use threatening language like this.

What to do if you receive this:

• Do not send money or provide personal information.• Do not scan the QR code.• Verify any court-related matters directly through your local Clerk of Court.
