Solero Technologies in Shelby will permanently lay off 102 workers and close its plant by the end of 2026.
According to a notice released by the company, the decision follows Solero’s acquisition last October of Netherlands-based Kendrion’s automotive business, which included the Kendrion Automotive facility in Shelby. The plant currently employs 102 workers.
All employees and key community stakeholders were informed last year about the company’s plans to eventually close the facility. Solero said the decision to restructure operations in Shelby and integrate them into its existing manufacturing footprint over the next 18 to 24 months is intended to align with the company’s evolving needs in a competitive market.
The legal disclosures submitted to the state of North Carolina on September 29 confirm the previously announced plan. Solero expects to fully wind down operations in Shelby by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
Layoffs are scheduled to begin next month and will continue over the coming year.
