The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection with an investigation into severe injuries sustained by a five-month-old child.

According to the sheriff’s office, 23-year-old Maggie Nicole Regan and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Dylan Scott Hoyle, have been charged with intentional felony child abuse.

On August 10, the infant was taken to AdventHealth Polk with critical injuries, including a skull fracture. Authorities said the child had been left in Hoyle’s care while Regan was at work. Hoyle later contacted Regan to report that the child was unresponsive. Regan transported the infant to the hospital, where doctors determined the extent of the injuries.

The child is currently receiving treatment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the sheriff’s office reported.

On August 19, Regan and Hoyle were arrested. Both were released on $80,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with the child while the investigation continues.
