The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has charged two people with felony drug possession following a traffic stop on August 31.
Deputy Jordan Cox initiated a stop on a truck driven by 42-year-old James Robert Hughes of Morganton for a traffic violation. Hughes was found to be driving without a license. A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected fentanyl and methadone. Deputies also reported finding drug paraphernalia on a passenger, 33-year-old Amanda Sue Adkins, who is listed as homeless.
Both Hughes and Adkins were charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Each was given a $10,000 secured bond and taken to the McDowell County Detention Center.
The Marion Police Department assisted in the incident.
