A potentially dangerous situation turned into a surprising but harmless incident when a 12-year-old boy was pulled over while driving himself to school in Union County.
According to reports, a Monroe police officer noticed an SUV with what appeared to be a fake tag and observed suspicious driving behavior. After stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered the driver was a 12-year-old boy. The child reportedly told the officer he had missed the school bus and decided to drive himself to school.
Officials did not release the name of the school the boy was attempting to reach. A school resource officer arrived on scene and transported the child safely to school.
No injuries were reported, and authorities say the incident has been referred to social services, which is working with the family to ensure the child’s safety and wellbeing. Reports indicate no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
