What could have been a tragedy turned into one of those “how in the world” moments
when a 12-year-old boy was pulled over in Union County after he tried to drive himself
to school yesterday morning.
According to reports a Monroe police officer observed an SUV reports say had a fake
tag and caught the officer’s attention with its suspicious behavior. Once the vehicle was
stopped, the officer found the 12-year-old driving who then told the officer he missed the
bus and decided to drive himself to school. Officers are not saying what school the child
was headed to, but a school resource office did arrive to take the child to school.
Thankfully not one was hurt but the incident was turned over to the Department of
Social Services and they are working with the boy’s family to ensure his safety and
wellbeing and also reports say no charges have been filed.
