Airport Director Devon Raisch reported that fuel sales are down nearly $40,000 this month. He cited the recent Statesville plane crash, which killed seven people, as a factor affecting local flight activity. “It kind of puts a damper on people wanting to go fly,” Raisch said. He blamed both the recent crash and colder weather for the dip in sales, but said the airport’s overall budget remains on track.

Reich also updated the board on hangar construction. Three hangars are currently under construction or approved for building, including a temporary housing arrangement for a King Air aircraft so the owner can base it locally while completing a hangar project. He said the airport continues to focus on accommodating pilots and improving infrastructure.

The board briefly discussed security improvements, including a perimeter fence. Reich said the current 8-foot fence meets FAA standards, though a 10-foot fence is now recommended to prevent animals and people from going onto the property. The airport is exploring options to upgrade the fence while maximizing the use of available funding.

The meeting concluded with no new business, and the board unanimously approved a motion to adjourn. You may watch the meeting here.
