Burke County Man Charged with First-Degree Burglary, Assault After Reported Shooting

A Granite Falls man is facing multiple felony charges following a shooting that left one person injured in Burke County.

According to the Burke County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported gunshot wound on Sunday, July 26, at a residence in the 6400 block of East Meadow Trail in Connelly Springs.

When deputies arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators say the victim identified Wendell Sherwood Osborne, 43, of Granite Falls, as the person who shot him. Burke County Emergency Services transported the victim to UNC Blue Ridge for medical treatment.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants charging Osborne with Felony First-Degree Burglary and Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury.

Authorities located Osborne on Monday, July 27, and took him into custody. He was brought before a Burke County magistrate, served with the warrants, and ordered held without bond.

Osborne's first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, July 30.

The investigation was conducted by the Burke County Sheriff's Office with assistance from Burke County Emergency Services and the George Hildebran Fire Department.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
