A missing person investigation in Rutherford County has escalated into a homicide case after authorities confirmed the discovery of human remains belonging to 30-year-old Jordan Elaine Wishon.

Investigators with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division initially opened the case after Wishon was reported missing from the S. Church Street area of Mooresboro. Public alerts described her as 5’2”, 170 pounds, with brown eyes and dark brown hair, and noted identifying tattoos including a scorpion, an “eclipse with ‘Skyler,’” and “Lil Jay.”

Detectives immediately launched interviews and coordinated search efforts across multiple locations as part of the active missing person investigation.

On June 26, 2026, investigators executed a series of search warrants throughout the evening and into the early morning hours of June 27. At approximately 5:17 a.m., deputies searched a residence on Pebblestone Lane in Rutherfordton, where they discovered human remains buried on the property.

Authorities later confirmed the remains were positively identified as Wishon.

On June 28, 2026, investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging 25-year-old Jaydakis Kashaune Hamilton of Rutherfordton with first-degree murder. Officials said Hamilton is currently incarcerated at the Polk County Detention Center on unrelated charges and has not yet been served with the new warrant.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and no additional details are being released at this time in order to preserve the integrity of the case.

According to North Carolina eCourts records maintained through the state’s online judicial system, Hamilton has an extensive criminal history, with approximately 87 listed cases across multiple counties, including Rutherford, Polk, McDowell, and Burke. Court entries show a mix of disposed, pending, and prior charges spanning several years, ranging from district court matters to superior court cases.

Officials have not said whether any of the prior cases are directly connected to the current homicide investigation.

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including Rutherfordton Fire Department, Rutherford County EMS, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office, South Carolina Foothills Search and Rescue, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities expressed condolences to the victim’s family, asking the public to keep loved ones in their thoughts during what they described as a “deeply difficult time.”

Officials also urged anyone with additional information to contact the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
