Firefighter Seriously Injured After Ellenboro Firetruck Overturns Early Friday

An investigation is underway following a rollover crash involving an Ellenboro firetruck early Friday morning.


The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Piney Mountain Church Road as the Ellenboro Fire Department was responding to assist another agency. According to initial reports, the driver swerved to avoid a deer, causing the firetruck to overturn and trap the firefighter inside.


Emergency crews worked to free the firefighter, who was airlifted to a hospital in Spartanburg. As of the latest update, the firefighter is in serious but stable condition. The firefighter’s name has not been released.


Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
