The Town of Lake Lure has announced that the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge will be dismantled beginning August 18, 2025, due to structural damage sustained during Tropical Storm Helene in September 2024.
According to the town, two independent engineering assessments determined the historic bridge was beyond repair and could not be restored. Following a competitive bid process, Mitch Contracting was awarded the removal contract. The demolition process is expected to take several weeks.
Officials are urging the public to stay clear of the demolition site for safety reasons. This includes the east side of the bridge and the west side near the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge Education Center. All posted signage and barriers should be respected.
The Town of Lake Lure expressed appreciation to the volunteers who worked for more than a decade to enhance and maintain the bridge, noting its value to both the community and visitors.
More information about the bridge’s history can be found at the Town of Lake Lure’s website.
