A Marion man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies say he resisted officers during a traffic stop along Interstate 40.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Joshua Thomas Buie of Marion was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

Buie was given a $15,000 secured bond.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

Deputy Connor Tolley conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep Grand Cherokee near Exit 81 on I-40 on August 17 after observing a traffic violation.

Buie was a passenger in the vehicle. During the stop, deputies determined that he had an outstanding warrant in McDowell County charging him with assault on a female.

Deputies said Buie was asked to step out of the vehicle but refused.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Buie then became aggressive and resisted deputies as they attempted to remove him from the vehicle.

Once Buie was secured and taken into custody, deputies searched him and the vehicle.

The search reportedly resulted in the discovery of a suspected amount of methamphetamine and a used syringe.

Buie was subsequently charged with possession of methamphetamine and resisting a public officer.

The McDowell County Sheriff's Office thanked McDowell County Emergency Services for assisting deputies with the incident.

As with all criminal charges, Buie is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
