The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office handled more than 4,000 calls for service and made 171 arrests during July, according to the agency’s monthly activity report.

The Sheriff’s Office recorded 4,092 calls for service during the month, along with 331 reports and 171 arrests.

July’s numbers show continued activity across the county and an increase in several categories compared with June.

Arrests and Calls for Service

The Sheriff’s Office made 171 arrests in July, up from 164 in June.

Calls for service totaled 4,092, slightly below June’s 4,187 calls but still making July the busiest month in the six-month period shown in the report.

Reports increased from 286 in June to 331 in July.

The agency also reported an average daily inmate population of 215, consisting of 180 males and 35 females. That was an increase from June’s average of 195 inmates.

Narcotics Seizures

Drug seizures remained a significant part of the Sheriff's Office activity in July.

Deputies reported seizing:

  • 5,408.5 grams of marijuana

  • 6,336.3 grams of methamphetamine

  • 37.9 grams of fentanyl/heroin

  • 17.7 grams of cocaine

  • 87 pills

  • 3 grams of other substances

  • 16 guns

The report lists more than 11,803 grams in the “all other” narcotics category for July, compared with 3,456.8 grams in June.

Methamphetamine seizures also increased significantly, rising from 1,025 grams in April and 3,946.2 grams in May to more than 6,300 grams in July.

Concealed Carry Permits

The Sheriff's Office issued 141 concealed carry permits during July.

That total included 30 new permits and 111 renewals.

July's 141 permits were down slightly from June's 149.

Papers Served

Deputies and staff served 507 papers during July, including:

  • 223 criminal papers

  • 284 civil papers

That figure was down from 536 total papers served in June.

Six-Month Activity

Looking at the January-through-July numbers provided by the Sheriff's Office, the agency has handled a consistently high volume of activity throughout 2026.

Calls for service climbed from 3,133 in January to more than 4,000 in both June and July. Arrests also increased from 127 in January to 171 in July.

The Sheriff's Office notes that the statistics may be revised as additional information becomes available and is processed.

July's activity report highlights the broad range of work handled by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office each month, from responding to calls and serving legal papers to making arrests, managing the county jail population and removing illegal drugs from the community.
