McDowell County Detention Center- Outstanding Recognition

The McDowell County Detention Center recently received outstanding recognition following its state inspection, earning a zero-deficiency report.

This means the facility successfully met inspection standards across a wide range of required areas, including security rounds, cleanliness and overall facility operations.

Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan said this achievement reflects the commitment and hard work of the detention center team.

“Our detention staff works hard every day in a challenging environment, and this zero-deficiency inspection is a true reflection of their commitment to doing the job right,” said Sheriff Buchanan. “I am proud of Captain Heath Helms and the entire detention staff for their continued effort to maintain a safe, clean and well-operated facility.”

Captain Helms also praised his staff and those who help keep the facility operating at a high standard.

“Achieving a zero-deficiency inspection is a direct reflection of the hard work of our detention staff,” said Captain Heath Helms. “This inspection covers a wide range of areas, and to have no deficiencies speaks volumes about the pride our staff takes in their work. I also want to give a special thank you to Facility Maintenance Coordinator Rodney Coates for his continued commitment to keeping this facility running smoothly and in top shape.”
